DJ set for Bristol-Myers Squibb at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort

Last night, Bristol-Myers Squibb celebrated the FDA approval of Nulojix with a party at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. I was asked to DJ, providing a “South Beach” style ambience for cocktails and hors d’œuvres. Afterwards, I segued into current pop favorites, including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, & Taio Cruz.

Thanks to Stephanie & Amber of Loews for including me in this event!

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 75 – playlist – June 24, 2011

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 72 – playlist – June 3, 2011

May 2011 non-musical input

Happy Memorial Day, and happy start of the summer. Below I’ve noted some of the recent films, and a recent book, that I have enjoyed. Click on the photo(s) for more information.

Thanks for reading.

A surprisingly great film. Who would’ve thought that Justin Bieber was so talented ?

A great find from the library. Jena Malone & Mandy Moore are very believable in this coming of age teen film, centered on their religious school. Highly recommended.

Another great find at the library. Bill Pullman is great, Alan Rickman makes us laugh, and Chris Pine steals the show in this quaint film about the rise of the California wine industry in the 1970′s. As funny as it is informative.

Noah Boyd’s first book, “The Bricklayer,” was an entertaining and invigorating read. His followup, featuring the same cast, continues on the path of action spy thriller. Excellent.

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 71 – playlist – May 27, 2011

Happy Memorial Day! Toby & I brought different types of music to the radio show this week. I opted for downtempo, indie electro, and hard charging house. Toby celebrated his birthday with a full hour of UK Garage. Tight!

Thanks for listening, and for reading.

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 70 – playlist – May 20, 2011

Many new releases hit the airwaves this week, as Toby & I brought indie, progressive, and electro, as well as drum and bass to the show. Thanks for reading, and for listening.

HUB residency ends

Unfortunately, my residency at HUB has been canceled. All of the DJs who played live at HUB from Sunday through Wednesday were let go yesterday. Tough news as I felt like I was just getting started!

As I roll with this punch, I reflect on sayings like “life happens.” It’s very true.

Thanks for supporting my residency, and thanks for reading.

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 69 – playlist – May 13, 2011

A sexy & scary week this week on Electric Feel. We celebrated episode 69, on Friday the 13th. From Toby’s first hour of deep house, to my “hands-in-the-air” big room house set, we brought exciting music to our listeners.

Thanks for reading, and for listening.

educational and entertaining

David Kamp’s book “The United States of Arugula” was informative, well-written, and funny. Highly recommended.

minimal mondays continues

Thanks to the supporters of Minimal Mondays.

Last night, one of the highlights of my set was this song, from 2009, by Claude VonStroke & Justin Martin.

Beat That Bird – Claude VonStroke & Justin Martin

hub residency may 2011

Tonight marks the third month of my HUB residency. I begin every Monday evening at 8pm, selecting titles and mixing them live. I keep the playlist loose and wide until 10pm. Tonight, starting at 10pm, I’ll select titles from the “minimal” side of music – artists including Trentemoller, James Blake, Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink & Steve Bug.

HUB is located at 266 East Congress, in Tucson, Arizona.

KXCI – Electric Feel – show 67 – playlist – April 29, 2011

I was solo this week on the radio show. I chose titles based on a peaks & valleys ride, primarily with new songs. I did manage to bring some old school flavors!

Thanks for reading, and for listening.

Happy Easter!

Thanks for reading, and for listening.

coachella 2011 review

What an incredible weekend of music in the desert. A beautiful festival environment, combined with solid infrastructure, made for a primarily awesome experience at Coachella 2011.

My highlights:

Trentemoller – he & his live band exceeded all my high expecations! Bravo! Encore! I didn’t want the show to be over.

Afrojack – rising above the cliche electro house

Chuckie – clever and invigorating house

Miguel – R&B meets the Clash

Yelle – impressive and full throated electro pop

Scissor Sisters – tight and at the top of their game, 10 years in

Jack Beats – hip-hop, drum and bass, dubstep, and fidget house – all mixed up blissfully

Cut Copy – exactly the dream pop that was needed

Chromeo – Robert Palmer would be proud.

Skrillex – what a rock musician can do with a DJ show

Brandt Brauer Frick – Cobblestone Jazz meets German correctness

Thunderball – a fun & funky afternoon party

Laidback Luke – power house!

Raphael Saadiq – quintessential funk for the next gen

Big Audio Dynamite – Mick Jones can still bring the vocals, and the dancegrooves

Wiz Khalifa – who woulda thought he had that great flow, was so nice, and picked only the best grooves ?

I’ll be out of town for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to Coachella!

Atypical Mix 8 – live at Hub – monday april 4, 2011

After an invigorating DJ set last night opening for Wolfgang Gartner, I geared back into Hub for the eighth week of my DJ residency. The DJ booth at Hub has moved to the front window of the venue. Beautiful! I moved across all genres of music – from bluegrass to funk, from disco to blues, from rock to jazz, from afrobeat to soul. I spent the last hour mixing a deep tech house set, where I included some favorites from Josh Wink, Steve Bug & Richie Hawtin. Thanks for reading, and for listening. Toby will be filling in for me the next two weeks at Hub – I’ll be out of town, visiting family in Palm Springs & LA, and attending the Coachella festival.

my live DJ set from the Wolfgang Gartner show

What an intense show last night at the Rialto! Harvard Bass & Wolfgang Gartner delivered an amazing three & a half hours of captivating electro.

I recorded my live DJ mix – it’s a quick 30 minute set, full of favorites. I decided to stay away from all house beats; instead I lined up disco funk, coffetable dubstep, and deep breaks. Thanks for reading, and for listening.

Choose peace.
